Sony F55.
We were very fortunate to get a walk through of the Sony F55 from our friends over a Band Pro (these guys are awesome and know their stuff – highly recommend you check them out).
The Sony Fee has 4096 x 2160 active pixels (17 x 9 image). This gets you as close to being a global shutter as you can get. It’s a feature grade and sits squarely alongside the other cameras in its class. This is a well crafted product.
It comes with an OLED viewfinder, proprietary to Sony, and with the same black level on the monitors that Sony manufactures. There’s a PL mount – BUT, it’s got an FZ mount just behind it. Pretty cool, because with a mechanical adapter you can get pretty much any lens on there.
There is a maximum frame rate in 4K of 60 frames/second. However, with a firmware update coming it will have a 2K mode that will take the same resolution and reduce it to 2K. But because you’re dealing with 4 times the pixels you can quadruple the frame rate to 240 frames/second at 2K. And that’s to the raw.
The body is approx. $28,000 and built out to $40,000 with all the accessories.
