Sound Devices is a company that is the league leader in audio. Everything they make is “bullet proof”.
This is what happens when a brilliant company decides to give you less of a good thing as opposed to more of a bad thing. Sure the functionality of the MixPre-d is somewhat limited, it only has 2 inputs, but the quality of those 2 is as good as you’ll get anywhere, at any price, pretty much.
As Tyler from Trew says:
Everything in audio is in a chain. You have a great microphone but a not so great pre-amp. The microphone can only sound as good as its pre-amp.
If you’re trying to run, and gun and as a sound guy you only need so many inputs, the Sound Devices MixPre-D is invaluable.
Built like a tank, amazingly rugged and a quality pre-amp like you’ve never heard. Plug in a good mic and go out to a decent recorder. Your sound will be studio quality–if you know what you’re doing (and that is a big “IF”, because equipment doesn’t make things look or sound good, people do).
Enjoy!
