Sal Totino describes how he went about asking Ron Howard to trust him and make the audience feel like they were really there with Russell Crowe – both in their apartment and in the ring – by choosing lenses appropriate to their environment.
The plan was to really make the audience try to feel as though they were there. For example, in Russel’s appartment we went through painstaking steps not to remove walls… and it forced me to be on certain lenses. And I think that really comes out in the film; and in the boxing.- Salvatore Totino
