Zene Baker in the second of our two-part interview. In this episode we discuss This is the End and 50/50.
We get into the details on cutting both of these movies and the difficulties and challenges in the editing.
On Cutting Drama vs. Comedy:
With drama it’s very performance nuanced; it seems like you make different choices. With drama it’s all about pacing the performance. Whereas with comedy it’s pacing the performance, pacing jokes and telling the story at the same time.
On Shooting This is the End
Everything is scripted but they (Seth and Evan) come equipped with alternate scenes they want to try. So, while we’re here, lets try a version where one character is thinking something completely different than the other guy. And then that might spark another idea. They scheduled a pretty good length of shoot (52 days) to allow themselves to “get that”.
