Colby Parker Jr. is just awesome! He’s been working with Peter Berg as his editor since before Friday Nights Lights. This is no holds barred. So far, this interview is about as close as we’ve gone to an action movie.
In all seriousness, Colby gets to the point. He doesn’t pull his punches. It’s clear that when it comes to editing, an editors job is to too tell the story. Anything that gets in the way of that very simple objective – well, you might as well take a steam roller because lets just say Colby is dedicated to the craft.
It’s really tough because directors, they take it so personally when you say you need it.
On the process:
An editors job is to respect the process; it’s take time.
On cutting action:
It’s more about pacing. If you have two quick hits then you want to be more languid and let it play. So it’s just about timing. Rhythm.
